30 Minutes to Swim Film
I have the pleasure and honor of being the executive producer for the short film, 30 Minutes to Swim; written and directed by a good friend Josh Therriault. I cannot wait to begin shooting and see this film come to life. Once complete, DVD’s of the film will be available for purchase on the film’s website. Please show your support by liking the Facebook fan page!
Quick Film Bio: 30 MINUTES TO SWIM is a short narrative film created by some very ambitious people. Emmet and Jesse are a young couple living in a small apartment and faced with the end of the world.
The film is nearing filming, yet there is always room for additional funding to make it a success. The film takes place in a hotel dressed as an apartment. The location needs to look as aesthetically interesting as possible, as well as pay for it. Any funds left over from the hotel, food, and small crew expenses will be used for film festival submissions. Help fund the film through Kickstarter.com. There are some great thank you gifts for all supporters.
Unseasonably warm winter…or something more?
So like many, I’ve been extremely happy about this weather in New England lately. It seems that long gone are the winters that have so long defined New England, with typical storms dumping many feet of snow and the season lasting well into March/April. It makes you wonder what’s in store for coming years? Were the common 65+ degree days just an anomaly or are we in for serious changes to our weather patterns? Some recent things I’ve been reading make me believe the later. If this is what is “usual” for the winter months, I’m a little concerned about the temps for our normal summer months…
“It’s never too early to start beefing up your obituary.”
I ran across this quote from a Dos Equis commercial that I thought was really great. I think there’s a lot of truth to it. Thinking over your life and realizing that it’s finite makes me think that it’s what you do today and each day that matters in the end. How do you want to be remembered? What happens in that finite period of time is what you’ll be remembered for, or as Russell Crowe puts it in the movie Gladiator, “What we do in life echoes in eternity.”
So with that, carry on with your day…

Moto License
UPDATE: It’s official!
DOT Motorcycle license course is complete! It feels great to check that off my bucket list. Now I can entertain the idea of buying a bike and actually riding once and a while.
Motorcycle License class booked

Finally booked the motorcycle licensing class June 6-8 with Tunxis Community College, Farmington, CT. $200 for a quick 3-day course with classroom and on-cycle time sounds like a pretty good deal to me. You get the license after you complete the class, so you don’t have to mess with the DMV. Plus you get a discount on the already ridiculously cheap motorcycle insurance (about $100/yr!). Also, they provide bikes to practice on until I get my own. It’s gotten me looking more seriously into a bike…leaning towards a Ducati Monster. I’ve never really been one for a full-on street bike, but the Monster seems like a good cross between traditional and more modern street bike. Also, you can’t beat that classic Ducati sound.
Sold GOLDX
Sold GOLDX at the close of trading yesterday (4/14/2011). Unfortunately, it was less than the figures shown in my last post. I am; however, very pleased with the 12.5% return for such a short holding period. I may still consider GOLDX in the future, but at this point I have mixed feelings on the direction of gold and world economies as a whole, thus reallocating funds at the moment. Lesson learned: take profits when you make them and don’t get greedy. Set a pre-determined return that you would like to achieve (in this case my goal was 10%) and capture profits once you reach it. Don’t continue to waver and adjust your investing strategy as money is stacking up. So in hindsight, while I didn’t capture the full 16.5%, I did best my goal of 10%, so for that I’m very excited.
GOLDX takes the lead!
Since purchasing Gamco Gold AAA fund (ticker: GOLDX) just about 2 months ago, I have seen some very nice returns. The fund has allowed me to diversify into gold and precious metals, without taking direct delivery of gold itself. I’m very happy with the 16.05% return, which leads my overall portfolio, bringing total portfolio return to 8.53%. Not too bad. Another fund, Acadian Emerging Markets (ticker: AEMGX) is also performing well for me, returning 5.29% overall. My position in Microsoft is quite dated, and I’m not really certain as to its future for my portfolio. I’d like to at least recognize 5-8% return before taking profits, but that may not play out as hoped.

Long Walk to Freedom
Began reading Nelson Mandela’s autobiography titled Long Walk to Freedom a few weeks ago and thought I should post. While it’s 625 pages, the story is so unbelievable and riveting that it’s a really enjoyable read. More to come as I get further along. I highly suggest getting a copy and learning more about this legend.
